Robot Vacuums: a short history

Robot vacuum cleaners can make housekeeping much easier – they help avoid hard-to-reach areas, as automated vacuum cleaners can do it for you. This invention is new enough to start gaining popularity when the idea was described … in the pages of a book of fiction. In 1956, A. Heilein’s novel “The Door into Summer” was published, which tells the story of an engineer who created a robot vacuum cleaner. The real robot vacuum cleaner appeared much later – four decades after the publication of this novel.

The first robot vacuums

The first robot vacuum cleaner was developed by Electrolux and delivered in 1997 via the BBC channel. These robotic vacuum cleaners appeared on the market later – in 2002. The device was named the extinct arthropod Trilobit. It is thought that this name was given because of the flat shape of the vacuum cleaner, which resembled trilobite. The first pump robot was already fully self-contained, with the help of ultrasound it could detect and bypass obstacles and return energy to a station where energy could be recharged. The robotic brushes of the first pump pushed the debris and dust to the suction location, and here all the dirt was sucked. This is how it works today – vacuum cleaners can help fight dirt at home. Vacuum cleaners with the same operating principle have been released by the company Robot.

Improved version

A couple of years later, in 2004, an improved version of the vacuum cleaner called the Trilobit 2 was developed. This upgraded version had a timer that helped locate the charging station before the energy was completely depleted, and the vacuum cleaner had a new design – a modern body and an LCD screen. Other manufacturers, such as Samsung, Karcher, LG, and Siemens, have started making robotic vacuum cleaners.

Robot vacuum cleaner operation

Owners of robot vacuums do not need to be involved in the cleaning process as these vacuums operate completely independently. It is not at all necessary to find time to vacuum the premises, because things can be much easier. Vacuum cleaner robots have so-called artificial intelligence, which makes handling the house much easier. Robot vacuum cleaners have been developed for “smart” homes, where various processes are optimized – many things can be done without the intervention of the homeowner.

The robot vacuum cleaner starts working at certain set hours, or when the button is pressed. The variety of vacuum cleaner robots on offer today is certainly not narrow, so you can choose one that will be easier for you to operate. The vacuum cleaner, when switched manually or automatically, moves itself to collect debris. If there are some obstacles in the way of the vacuum cleaner, the “decides” how to overcome them. Various ways of solving problems are programmed in the artificial intelligence of the pump so that a certain solution can be made without any problems. If the vacuum cleaner may get stuck (for example, if it will not be able to slip through certain cracks and will not be able to turn the other way, the robot will send an audible signal. Then you will need to help the robot vacuum cleaner and readjust it). When the vacuum cleaner finishes working, it will travel to the charging station. Typically, vacuum cleaner robots are about 30 cm in diameter and 10 cm in height. The compact and slim vacuum cleaner can remove dust in various hard-to-reach places, so maximum cleanliness is always maintained in the home. In the past, before using a vacuum cleaner, the robot had to be programmed with room dimensions to make it easier for the robot to “orientate” indoors, but today the control of vacuum cleaner robots is much simpler. Most robots have a special infrared sensor in the center of the screen, which is usually on the front of the pump. This is what helps the vacuum cleaner find the charging station, and you don’t have to worry about when you need to load the vacuum cleaner. Previous models of robot vacuum cleaners were supposed to recharge in about 20 hours, but modern models are recharged much faster – this usually takes 2-4 hours.

Control of the robot vacuums

The robot vacuum can be operated via an LCD display with designated buttons. The number of buttons will depend on which specific model you decide to obtain, based on the model the controls will also differ. The most popular features of robot vacuums modes are routine house cleaning, small area cleaning, and quick cleaning. All this allows the pump owners to breathe and entrust the cleaning of the house to the robot. After programming the vacuum cleaner, you can go to work in peace, and when you return home, you will be able to enjoy a shining home – it will not be a shame to invite guests.

Some robot vacuum cleaners have remote controls that can make it even easier to operate the vacuum cleaner. Ultrasound, signals that indicate that the vacuum cleaner is stuck, and infrared rays can help robots vacuum in the environment. Also, some pump models may have special sensors that respond if there is no base at the bottom. This protects the pump from possible damage if it tries to vacuum the stairs or other objects.

The vacuum can be equipped with a timer that programs the operating time of the pump robot, charging stations, sensors that react to various surfaces, and batteries that allow the robot to run for several hours.

Currently, robot cleaners are increasingly being developed, and even more, improved models of vacuum cleaner robots will definitely be on the market in the near future. You can be sure that the robot vacuum will always serve you well at home – they will work well if there are animals in the house, as you will not have to vacuum the house every day and you will always be able to keep the house clean. Buying a pump robot is always beneficial as it will save you precious time and allow you to enjoy cleanliness. Although it is a relatively new invention, consumers have already managed to appreciate the biggest advantages of this invention, and this choice is certainly one of the most favorable.
